Hot tub & fire pit evenings
Soak under the stars on the back deck, then gather around the fire pit. The deck faces the mountain sunrise, too.

Accident, Maryland · Garrett County
A secluded log cabin in the mountains near Deep Creek Lake and Wisp. Soak in the hot tub under the stars, gather around the fire pit, and wake up to deer in the backyard.
Welcome to Fernwood
Come escape the hustle and bustle, breathe the mountain air, and experience the magic of Garrett County. Fernwood is a 1,500 sq. ft. log cabin on a private, wooded lot. There are no neighbors in view from the backyard, just open lawn, tall trees, and the wildlife that wanders through.
It works for couples, small families, or a friends' weekend. Two upstairs bedrooms each have a comfy queen bed and crisp linens. Downstairs, the open kitchen and dining area catch the morning sun, and the living room has a gas fireplace, a smart TV, a record player, and a shelf of board games.
Whether you come for ski season, fall color, or a slow summer weekend by the lake, you return each evening to a private retreat.

The local guide
Garrett County has waterfalls, river gorges and lakeside ridges, plus a growing craft beer scene. Here are our favorite pairings: a hike, then a pint close by on the drive back to the cabin.
Hike
A short loop along the Youghiogheny River past Muddy Creek Falls, through rhododendron and mountain laurel. Add the side path to Tolliver Falls.
Brewery
A lakeside brewpub in McHenry known for its ales and wood-fired flatbreads. 6690 Sang Run Road.
Hike
A former narrow-gauge railroad bed along the Youghiogheny, with rapids beside you and the stone ruins of the old logging town of Kendall. Rocky and muddy in spots.
Eat & drink
Our pick in Friendsville's small downtown, right after the trail. Bear Creek nearby is great for kayaking, too.
Hike
A loop in Deep Creek Lake State Park with spring wildflowers and great fall color. Leashed dogs are allowed, so bring your pup.
Brewery
Lagers, IPAs and a dunkel, a short drive around the lake. 1550 Deep Creek Drive, McHenry.
Hike
A longer day in Potomac-Garrett State Forest. Follow the creek to Cascade Falls and climb to the Potomac overlook. Plan on about four hours.
Brewery
Beer brewed on site and a menu built around local farms. The original is on Main Street in Accident, minutes from Fernwood. A second spot, the Social House, is in Oakland.
“Loved location, privacy, contact with owner, hot tub. Close to everything and Brewery and the Beast and Mountain State Brewing, excellent food and beverages.”Sharon P. · Vrbo guest

Guest reviews
“Two words: impeccably clean. … This is hands down the cleanest place I've ever stayed in. … The cabin is very private (no neighbors can be seen from the backyard) and the hot tub was great (also very clean!). Ruby was super proactive with communication, and even sent me recommendations for restaurants and a Spotify playlist … to enjoy by the fire. Well worth the price, and just a 10-15 minute drive to the lake and restaurants. We are already planning a return trip!”
“We enjoyed the hot tub, the fire pit, and cooked a few amazing meals. Had deer every morning eating from the apple tree in the backyard. We will definitely be back for ski season!”
“This cabin is sweet and the property around it is perfect! We love to hike and it's within a short ride to several great trail opportunities, as well as places to stop to get a bite and drink after. The cabin had everything and the hot tub was a nice touch.”
“What a wonderful retreat! Close enough to the lake but secluded enough for solitude. Exactly what I needed!”
“We loved our stay at Ruby's cabin. It was clean and exactly as described. The property was quiet and beautiful which was exactly what we were looking for. The cabin was the perfect size for the two of us, and the hot tub was excellent.”
